We’re making an important update to how FitOn connects to health and fitness data on Android. Below is everything you need to know about what’s changing, why it matters, and what (if anything) you need to do.
What’s changing?
FitOn will no longer connect directly to Google Fit on Android.
FitOn will now connect directly to Health Connect, Google’s newer health data platform.
Health Connect is becoming the standard way Android apps share health and fitness data, and this update helps ensure better reliability, broader device support, and a more future-proof experience.
Do I still need Google Fit installed?
Yes — if you use Google Fit.
Google Fit is still a great app for:
Step tracking
Workout logging
Viewing your daily activity
If you continue to use Google Fit, make sure it’s set up to sync data with Health Connect:
Google Fit can read from and write to Health Connect
FitOn reads and writes data to Health Connect
This allows:
FitOn data to appear in Google Fit
Google Fit data to flow into FitOn (via Health Connect)
👉 Think of Health Connect as the “hub” that lets your apps talk to each other.
What is Health Connect?
Health Connect is a system-level Android service that securely stores and shares health and fitness data between apps.
Key things to know:
Starting with Android 14, Health Connect comes preinstalled on most Android devices
It acts as the central source of truth for health data (steps, workouts, calories, etc.)
You control:
Which apps can access your data
What types of data each app can read or write
Because FitOn now connects directly to Health Connect, you may see more complete and accurate data, especially if you use multiple devices or fitness apps.
What are the benefits of this change?
By integrating directly with Health Connect, FitOn can:
Support a wider range of devices and fitness apps
Reduce sync issues caused by app-to-app “middleman” connections
Give users more transparency and control over their data
Align with Google’s long-term direction for Android health data
If your devices or apps already sync with Health Connect, FitOn can now access that data automatically (with your permission).
What changes in the FitOn app?
For new users
You’ll be prompted to connect to Health Connect during setup
This will be the default and recommended option for step and workout tracking
For existing users
You’ll need to manually enable Health Connect to continue syncing data
Go to:
Profile → Settings → Health ConnectOnce enabled, FitOn will seamlessly pull in steps and workout data as before
What if I use Samsung Health?
Good news — this update makes things simpler.
Samsung Health already supports a direct connection with Health Connect. That means:
You can connect Samsung Health → Health Connect
Then connect FitOn → Health Connect
No extra apps or workarounds needed
👉 Google Fit is no longer required as a middle step for Samsung Health users.
This results in faster syncing and fewer points of failure.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Health Connect is designed with privacy and security in mind:
Your data stays on your device
Apps can only access data you explicitly allow
Permissions can be changed or revoked at any time through Android settings
FitOn only reads and writes the data necessary to support your fitness experience.
Do I need to do anything right now?
New users: Just follow the prompts to connect Health Connect
Existing users: Enable Health Connect in the FitOn app settings
Google Fit or Samsung Health users: Make sure those apps are allowed to sync with Health Connect
