Important update
FitOn no longer connects directly to Google Fit on Android.
Instead, FitOn now connects through Health Connect, which acts as the central hub for health and fitness data on Android.
If you use Google Fit, you can still see your FitOn data there — you’ll just do it via Health Connect.
How Google Fit works with Health Connect
Google Fit supports syncing data to and from Health Connect. FitOn also reads and writes data to Health Connect.
This means:
FitOn → Health Connect → Google Fit
Google Fit → Health Connect → FitOn
As long as both apps are connected to Health Connect, your data will continue to flow between them automatically.
Do I still need Google Fit?
Google Fit is optional, but useful if you:
Prefer Google Fit’s interface for viewing steps or workouts
Manually log activities or steps in Google Fit
Use Google Fit as a pedometer
If you use Google Fit, make sure it is connected to Health Connect.
Recommended Setup
Step 1: Connect Google Fit to Health Connect
Open the Google Fit app
Go to Settings
Find Health Connect
Allow Google Fit to read and write data via Health Connect
Step 2: Connect FitOn to Health Connect
Open the FitOn app
Go to Profile
Tap Settings
Select Health Connect
Allow FitOn access to the requested data types
Once both connections are enabled, syncing will happen automatically.
What changed from the old Google Fit connection?
Previously:
FitOn connected directly to Google Fit
Google Fit acted as the middle layer for other devices and apps
Now:
Health Connect is the central storage layer
FitOn and Google Fit both connect to Health Connect
This results in better reliability and broader device support
⚠️ Because of this change, older instructions that reference a “Google Fit” toggle inside FitOn may no longer apply on newer versions of the app.
Syncing workouts to Google Fit
All future FitOn workouts will sync to Google Fit once Health Connect is enabled
Past workouts from before the connection was enabled cannot be retroactively synced
This is a limitation of Google Fit / Health Connect, not FitOn
Syncing steps with Google Fit
To ensure steps appear correctly in FitOn:
Confirm steps are tracking in Google Fit
Make sure Google Fit is connected to Health Connect
Make sure FitOn is connected to Health Connect
Check step permissions in Health Connect (both apps should be allowed)
If steps appear in Google Fit but not in FitOn, double-check that FitOn has permission to read step data in Health Connect.
Manually adding steps
If you manually add steps in Google Fit:
Those steps will sync to Health Connect
FitOn can read them as long as permissions are enabled
To add steps in Google Fit:
Open Google Fit
Tap the activity ring
Tap the + icon
Add steps under the “Steps” field
Save the activity
